<p>This dataset is the entire content of the first volume of the Atlas of the Kyrgyz Soviet Socialist Republic. This atlas is a comprehensive scientific atlas that comprehensively reflects the natural geographical environment, geological resources and historical investigation process of Kyrgyzstan. The book has a rigorous structure and is divided into four major sections: introduction, toponymy, historical research, and natural conditions and resources. It contains hundreds of thematic maps, cross-sections and statistical charts. **1. Toponymic **: Covering toponymic terms, water name (origin of river and lake names), settlement name (settlement name) and their format specifications. **2. Historical research: ** Records the geographical expedition routes, scientific expeditions and the distribution of research institutions from the 18th century to the early 20th century (including the Soviet period). **3. Natural conditions and resources (core content): ** **-Geology and minerals: ** Including geological structures, magmatic rocks, palaeogeography (distribution of land and land in various geological periods), neotectonic movements, Quaternary sediments, and distribution of mineral resources. **-Landform and hydrogeology: ** Covering topography, glaciers (distribution and form of modern glaciers), hydrogeology (groundwater distribution, fresh water reserves), engineering geology (building foundation conditions), and seismic zoning. **-Climate and glaciers: ** Including temperature, precipitation, humidity, solar radiation, phenology (plant flowering period, crop growing period), snow cover and avalanche danger areas. **- -Hydrology: ** Involves river network distribution, runoff modulus, river recharge, sediment content, water chemical composition (salinity, hardness), hydraulic resources and water depth and form of lakes (Issyk Lake, etc.). **-Biology and soil: ** Includes soil type, erosion status, agricultural chemical properties, vegetation cover, forestry zoning, animal kingdom (migration of vertebrates, fish, birds) and nature reserve network. </p>

This atlas is led by the Kyrgyz Academy of Sciences and jointly compiled by multiple scientific research institutions and universities across the Soviet Union: · Editor-in-chief: Scientific Production Committee (NPK) of the Council of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Soviet Socialist Republic. · Scientific organization and coordination unit: M.M., Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Soviet Socialist Republic Department of Geography, Adishev Geological Institute. · Main preparation and participating units: - - Scientific research institutions: institutes of the Kyrgyz Academy of Sciences (Biology, Earthquake, Tianshan Physical Geography Station, etc.), Institute of Geography of the Soviet Academy of Sciences, and All-Soviet Integrated Automation Systems Research Institute (VNIIGA). - - Universities: Moscow State University (Comprehensive Mapping Laboratory), Leningrad University, Kiev University, Kyrgyz State University. - - Government departments: No. 4 Printing House of the State General Administration for Geodesy and Cartography (GUGK) of the Council of Ministers of the Soviet Union, Hydrometeorological and Natural Environment Control Administration of the Kyrgyz Soviet Socialist Republic, Geological Administration, affiliated agencies of the Ministry of Agriculture (Kyrgyz National Land Planning and Design Institute, Kyrgyz Agricultural Planning), Institute of Nursing Sciences of the Ministry of Health. · Reviser: Central Institute of Geodesy, Aerial Photography and Cartography (TsNIIGAiK).
The compilation of the original atlas followed strict Soviet scientific specifications for comprehensive mapping: 1. Multi-source data integration and coordination: - - On-site observation and archive mining: The data base comes from long-term field scientific expeditions, hydrometeorological observation stations (including the 1975 special observation of Lake Issyk), geological exploration archives and historical documents. - - Interdisciplinary collaboration: Expert teams from different disciplines such as geology, climate, and biology are responsible for data collation in their respective fields. 2. Comprehensive analysis and cartographic generalization: - - Combination of quantitative and qualitative: Conduct qualitative classification (such as soil type, vegetation community) and quantitative analysis (such as annual precipitation, runoff module, earthquake intensity) of natural factors. - - Multi-dimensional expression: For complex mountainous environments, multiple mapping methods are used. For example, geological maps use the stratigraphy-structure method, climate maps use the contour and location chart method, and geomorphological maps use the combination of hill shading and layered color setting method. - - Compilation of historical maps: The historical research part transfers historical information to modern geographical base maps through textual research archives and explorers 'route maps. 3. Editing and revision process: - - Scientific editor: composed of leaders from various disciplines (such as academician P.G. Grigorenko, A. M. Mamytov) conducts scientific content control. - - Method guidance and printing: Under the guidance of scientific methods from the Department of Geography of Moscow State University and the General Administration of Surveying and Mapping of the Soviet Union, the plate making and printing were carried out by GUGK No. 4 Printing House, ensuring the geometric accuracy and printing quality of the atlas. - - Standardization of geographical names: After special toponymic research, the spelling of geographical names in Russian, Kyrgyz and Latin has been unified. The scanned version of the "Thematic Atlas of Natural Environment and Resources of Kyrgyzstan" is stored in JPG format. The resolution of the original scan data is 20472×14331 pixels, and the output resolution is 800 dpi. There is color deviation caused by lack of color calibration. The original image presents yellow and dark tone characteristics. After post-image processing, by adjusting brightness, contrast, saturation, and performing color correction operations such as de-yellowing and de-red, the image resolution is resampled to 10000×7000 pixels, and the output resolution is set to 96 dpi. After processing, the image quality is improved compared with the original scan. The processed data is stored in.jpg and.png formats.
