This monograph can be divided into three parts. The first part is an analysis of the morphological characteristics of the Costomales, which describes in detail the cell structure of the Costomales, including cell wall stratification (outer membrane, cellulose layer, mineral deposition), pigment body morphology (axon or lateral) and cell nuclear distribution, focusing on the analysis of the cell symmetry (radial symmetry/bilaterally symmetry) and the evolutionary characteristics of the reproductive structure (zygospores, chlamydospores) of the Costomales). The second part discusses ecological distribution and environmental adaptation. Based on field survey data from 1951 to 1968, it reveals the distribution laws of Domerella in different ecological areas (Arctic tundra, temperate lakes, and tropical swamps). It is found that acid peat swamps (pH 3.5-5.0) are its main habitat, and some species have an indicative effect on heavy metal pollution. The third part is a taxonomic search and species list, which includes taxonomic information of 184 species of Daphnia species in 21 genera in the Soviet Union, including the collection locations of model specimens, synonyms and morphological variation characteristics, such as the dentate processes of the genus Microstella and the spiny ornamentation of the genus Daphnia, with 237 original illustrations to assist in identification. The full text integrates morphological, ecological and taxonomic data to provide basic data for freshwater algae research in Central Asia.
