This book is the first monograph to systematically study the chemical characteristics of Lake Baikal. Based on field survey data from 1948 to 1955, it comprehensively analyzes the chemical composition, dynamic processes and ecological significance of Lake Baikal. The main contents include: (1) Basic characteristics of water chemistry: vertical and horizontal distribution laws of lake water ion composition, dissolved oxygen, carbon dioxide, pH value, etc. (2) Dynamic processes: biogeochemical cycles (nitrogen, phosphorus, silicon, organic matter), oxygen balance, deep layer chemical zoning. (3) Regional comparison: Water chemical differences between Lake Baikal and other large lakes around the world (such as Lake Kusugur and Lake Tanganyika). (4) Application value: Provide scientific basis for the development of cascade hydropower stations on the Angara River and the utilization of Lake Baikal resources.
