The Tianshan Snow and Avalanche Xinjiang Field Scientific Observation and Research Station (referred to as the "Snow and Avalanche Station" is located in Nalati Town, Xinyuan County, Ili Prefecture, Xinjiang. It is located on the Gongnaisi River in the upper reaches of the Ili River Valley in the western section of the Tianshan Mountains. The geographical coordinates are N43o16', E84o24', and the meteorological observation site is 1776 meters above sea level. It was formerly known as "The Tianshan Snow and Avalanche Research Station" in 1967 to ensure smooth flow of highways across the Tianshan Mountains. It is the only scientific observation and research station in my country and Central Asia that conducts long-term scientific observation and research on climate change, snow cover characteristics and disaster prevention and control in mountainous areas. Since its establishment, the Snow Avalanche Station has accumulated more than 50 years of snow characteristics, avalanche disasters, meteorological and hydrological observation data, remote sensing data, reanalysis data, etc., and has a profound historical data accumulation. In June 2023, it was recognized by the Science and Technology Department of the Autonomous Region as a field scientific observation and research station of the Autonomous Region.
