As is well known, the socioeconomic development of many major regions is closely linked to solving problems associated with both sectoral and integrated uses of water resources. This relationship is particularly characteristic of the developed industrial and agricultural regions of the European part of the Soviet Union and certain areas of Asia, as well as of many newly developing regions, especially the agro-industrial complexes of Central Asia and the emerging territorial production complexes in the eastern parts of the country. The management of the rational use and protection of terrestrial water resources is directly associated with the scientific solution of some of the most important problems facing the Soviet Union. Foremost among these are the implementation of the USSR Food Program to 1990, the energy problem, the further improvement of living standards and healthcare services for both urban and rural populations, and the broader task of protecting the biosphere. The present volume has been prepared by the Hydrosphere Section of the Scientific Council on Biosphere Problems of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and the Institute of Water Problems of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, with the participation of the Surface Water Commission of the Hydrology Section of the Interdepartmental Geophysical Committee of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. The book incorporates materials discussed at the seminars (or training schools) on Theory and Methods of Terrestrial Water Resource Management held in 1979 and 1981. In addition to articles dealing with the fundamental issues of water-resource formation, utilization, management, and protection, the volume also includes papers devoted to specific aspects of water-resource management.Several of the contributions focus on new phenomena observed in the DB - EGIDC UR - https://data.dcxjegi.cn/portal/metadata/f47062a2-828c-4d88-bc98-64ee6ffa8926 ER -
