The first half reviews the Soviet Union's expedition activities and follow-up research plans in the Arctic; the second half details the discovery process, expedition history (pre-war and recent), and natural geographical characteristics of the Antarctic continent (including topography, climate, ocean and ice conditions, animal kingdom), and focuses on the composition, working area, research projects, equipment configuration and initial work progress of the Soviet Antarctic Comprehensive Expedition Team. The book provides readers with an overview of the Soviet polar scientific expeditions in the 1950s.
