%X In our country, a grand plan for the construction of a communist society has been laid out for the coming seven years. The Soviet Union has entered a historic period of flourishing material strength, art, and science.While production continues to grow steadily, the living conditions of working people are improving year by year. The expanding landscaping and greening efforts throughout our country are a vivid expression of the Party's and the Government's concern for improving the working and living conditions of the Soviet people and satisfying their aesthetic needs. If green areas currently account for 15.6% of the territory of Ukraine's cities, then by 1964 this proportion will increase to 30% across the republic. By that time, the total area of green spaces in the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic will reach approximately 965,000 hectares.In Ukraine, 459,700 hectares of new green spaces will be established by 1964, including 115,200 hectares within cities, 41,700 hectares in suburban settlements, 155,000 hectares of forests and forest parks, and others.Flowers are an indispensable organic component of green spaces. In cities and workers' settlements alone, flower gardens will occupy more than 6,000 hectares. And how many flowers there will be in rural areas, collective farm settlements, health resorts, Young Pioneer summer camps, and home gardens as well!Vast stretches of leafy trees and the delicate colors of flowers adorn architectural complexes, embellish undeveloped spaces, and transform our cities and villages into continuous gardens.The working people of Kyiv, Lviv, Stalino, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and many other cities, workers' settlements, and villages are successfully carrying out the tasks of greening and landscaping.Beautiful Kyiv is not only an important industrial, cultural, and administrative center, but also a city of parks, where the abundance and diversity of flowers are combined with highly developed skills in floral planting and decoration.
