The achievements of modern science not only make it possible to expand the range of applications of already known medicinal plants, but also allow the continual introduction of new species into public health practice. Scientific medicine has demonstrated the therapeutic value of hundreds of plant species, yet despite this, most of them remain insufficiently studied. Establishing phytotherapy on a solid scientific foundation and providing it with a rational basis are among the important tasks that stand before us.\r\n\r\nHuman beings obtain everything necessary for life from nature. The natural environment of Turkmenistan is especially rich in medicinal plants. Compared with other regions, our country is home to numerous useful plant species that are unparalleled elsewhere. Modern medical practice would be unimaginable without plant-derived medicines or pharmaceutical products produced from botanical raw materials. In our country, all necessary conditions have been created for the comprehensive and reliable study of medicinal plants used in Turkmen folk medicine.\r\n\r\nDrawing upon scientific research, I have examined the customs, traditions, and various methods of preparing medicinal plants used in folk medicine, methods that our ancestors refined over centuries and elevated to the status of a treasured component of Turkmen national heritage. Throughout the previous volumes of this work, I have presented scientific information on medicinal plants, whose roots extend back to ancient times, together with their therapeutic properties, while taking into account the achievements of modern medicine and international experience. I believe that the study of the ethnobotanical and ethnomedical aspects of medicinal plants within our national flora is an important and highly relevant task today.
