作者基于2022年Sentinel-2数据提取了新疆维吾尔自治区面积大于0.001 km2的地表水库空间分布范围，并结合县志、年鉴等资料收集水库的属性信息，主要包括水库的名称、经纬度、平均高程、建成时间、总库容和最大面积、流域等，并根据水利工程标准和库容将水库分为大、中、小型水库。结果显示，截至2022年，新疆累计建造水库804座，总库容24.16 km3。其中，大、中、小型水库分别为37、175、592座，平原水库和山区水库各461、343座。1980年以后，大型山区水库的占比显著增加。本数据集包括：（1）1942-2022年新疆水库分布的空间数据；（2）水库属性数据，包括水库的名称、面积、库容、建成时间、高程、位置和所在流域等属性记录。数据集存储为.shp和.xlsx格式，由9个数据文件组成，数据量为21.4 MB（压缩为1个文件，5.86 MB）。
