为了合理利用自然财富，必须清楚地认识正在我们眼前发生的景观变化。这些变化既是自然过程的结果，也是人类经济活动的结果。许多自然过程进行得如此缓慢，以至于在平原地区，近几个世纪以来具有实际意义的可能只是气候的世纪性波动及其相关现象。而人类的经济活动则相反，会引起地理环境迅速而深刻的变化。然而，人类对自然影响的许多方面尚未充分阐明，其活动的实际意义常常被低估甚至完全被忽视。\n本书试图揭示里海低地西北部粘土质半荒漠地区近两个世纪以来，在人类经济活动影响和湿润程度世纪性波动作用下，植被覆盖和动物界所发生的变化。其中特别关注作为经济活动主要方面的副产物过程，因为它们最常被忽略。书中不涉及各种经济活动的直接结果，也不涉及促成里海低地西北部景观人为特征出现的经济关系特点。这一问题虽然极具研究价值，但已远远超出了生物学研究的范围。\n本书的材料基础是作者1950—1956年在苏联科学院森林研究所贾内别克定位站进行的野外研究，以及档案和文献资料。居民点、河流和湖泊名称依据1947年版西哈萨克斯坦州行政区划图。在工作过程中，作者得到了А.А.罗德、А.Г.加耶利、М.Н.波利斯基、К.С.霍达绍娃、Ю.А.伊萨科夫、С.Д.埃尔佩特、С.Н.卡兰金娜、Л.К.波兹尼亚科夫、В.И.察尔金和П.В.马捷金的建议和帮助，作者向他们表示诚挚的感谢。\n
