\n</p>\n</p>",

            "title": "Medicinal plants of Turkmenistan VIII",
            "ds_abstract": "The eighth volume of the encyclopedia Medicinal Plants of Turkmenistan is my gift to the Turkmen people and is dedicated to the “Year of Honoring Heritage and Reforming the Motherland.” It represents a continuation of research into the rich legacy of our ancestors, a heritage formed by the numerous works of outstanding ancient scholars and physicians, as well as by the collective experience accumulated through the unique talents and skills of our people in exploring and understanding the generosity of their native land.\r\n\r\nOur land and natural environment are sources of energy, health, and longevity. The ancient science devoted to understanding the mysteries of water, land, air, and medicinal herbs was created by our ancestors. For them, knowledge of the useful properties of the environment was not merely a blessing but, at times, the only means of survival. From that time onward, the history of medicine began, and it can be said with confidence that the world's earliest physicians were those whom we would today call practitioners of phytotherapy.\r\n\r\n“Medicine is the art of imitating nature's healing action,” wrote the renowned ancient physician Hippocrates. The outstanding Eastern scholar Abu Ali Ibn Sina, known in Europe as Avicenna, also promoted this idea and made remarkable contributions to the history of medicine. He authored forty medical treatises. For centuries, Ibn Sina's Canon of Medicine served as an indispensable reference not only for physicians of the East but also for those of Europe, exerting a profound influence on the development of world medicine. In this work, Ibn Sina described approximately 800 medicinal substances and methods for their preservation.\r\n\r\nAmong the sources relating to the history of medicinal-plant research, we take particular pride in the information concerning medicinal plants growing in present-day Turkmenistan found in the classical works of distinguished physicians and scholars who once lived on Turkmen soil, including Abu Ali Ibn Sina, Abu Rayhan al-Biruni, Sayyid Ismail Gurganli (Jorjani), Muhammad Gaymaz Turkmen, Muhammad Husayn, and Jalal al-Din Haydar. Studying the lives, professional achievements, and scientific legacy of these great figures, who laid the foundations of our national medical tradition, is a sacred duty of our generation.\r\n\r\nOur national medical heritage is eternal and has illuminated our present day across many centuries. Even today, approximately half of all medicines are derived from medicinal plants. The achievements of modern science not only make it possible to broaden the applications of known medicinal plants but also to introduce new species into healthcare practice. Scientific medicine has demonstrated the therapeutic properties of hundreds of plant species, although the majority remain insufficiently studied. Establishing phytotherapy on a solid scientific foundation and ensuring its effective development are among the important tasks that lie before us.\r\n\r\nOn the basis of scientific research, I have examined the customs, traditions, and methods associated with medicinal plants in folk medicine, methods that our ancestors refined over many centuries and elevated to the status of a treasured component of Turkmen national heritage. Taking into account modern international experience in the use of medicinal plants, I have, throughout the previous volumes of this work, presented information on Turkmen plant-derived remedies and their therapeutic properties, drawing upon scientific knowledge accumulated from antiquity to the present. I believe that research into the ethnobotanical and ethnomedical aspects of the medicinal plants of our country's flora is a timely and important task. The chapters of this volume provide complete and essential information on 108 medicinal plant species that have attained the level of scientifically validated therapeutic application and constitute a valuable source of plant-based medicinal resources.\r\n\r\nThe principal purpose of this book is to broaden the knowledge of healthcare professionals, collectors and custodians of medicinal-plant raw materials, regarding the structure, habitats, geographical distribution, chemical composition, growth conditions, practical medical applications, collection periods and methods, storage requirements, and ecological significance of medicinal plants.",
